A few minutes at… Boomtown Reno

Boomtown Reno is technically in Verdi, NV, near the Nevada/California border along I-80. It’s one of the first properties you meet when coming from Sacramento and it’s just a short drive from Reno.

Nearby

Next door is Cabela’s (sporting goods), a Chevron gasoline station, and a KOA RV park.

Gaming

Slots

Per Boomtown’s numbers, there are over 600 slot machines on the property of a variety of types. The slot floor is an open format with room to move. The noise level is fairly low. The cocktail servers are prompt and friendly, wherever on the floor you’re playing.

As of this writing (Aug 2010) there is a weekly $10 (or 150 Bonus Club points) slot tournament on Fridays. 11am-7pm. Top prize is $600 with cash prizes for the top 25 points totals. (All tournament information is subject to change; please contact Boomtown Reno if you need specific information.)

Table Games

With a selection of 21, Three Card Poker, Pai Gow Poker, and more, there are many options to choose from. Typically, one or more 21 tables is open all night and the other games open around 10am. (Of course, this is always subject to change based on club decisions and is not a formal schedule.) 21 table limits during the day are typically $5-$500 and higher tables open during the weekend/busy periods. A mix of single deck, double deck, and shoe are generally available. Single-deck games still offer 3-2 for Blackjack and double on any first two cards.

Poker

Boomtown Reno recently opened a new poker room (the tables were previously mixed into the slot area near the pit). The room has several tables but a cozy feel to it. It typically opens at 10am with either a live game ($1-$5 spread-limit hold ‘em) or a no-limit tournament. Recently, the tournament has not been being held in favor of starting the live game, so this is something to consider.

There is a Bad Beat jackpot for quads-or-better beaten (both hole cards must play, minimum $20 in the pot, minimum 4 players in the hand) with a typical split: 50% to the loser, 25% to the winner, 25% split among the remaining dealt-in players at the table.

Rake is 10% capped at $4.

There are also high-hand bonuses and semi-weekly drawings for $500 or more. See the Boomtown poker room for full details on these events.

Sports Book

The sports book is located near the Bonus Club desk, right next to the Denny’s. All your basic options are available as well as promotions in conjunction with Club CalNeva.

Keno

There is one Keno desk with, in addition to the normal options, the Mega10 Nevada state-wide progressive.

Entertainment

In addition to a new emphasis on bringing outside acts to the property (Kathleen Madigan, Josh Blue, and Tower of Power are recently performing acts), Centerstage at Boomtown provides a variety of live entertainment throughout the weekends.
