A Great Time To Be A Poker Player In Reno

Wednesday, August 31, kicks off what promises to be a great series of poker tournaments here in Reno. We start things off with the Peppermill’s Chop Pot Classic running through September 5. Then after ten days off we move right into the WPT Regional series at the Atlantis running from September 16 to September 25. With only a four day breather we then have the marathon of Grand Sierra’s Fall Pot of Gold from September 29 to October 17. That’s a lot of poker! And while you will surely want to play as many events as possible, in total, there are over $22,000 in buy-ins in the three series combined. [UPDATED] A Quiet Month in Poker . . . NOT!

The last three weeks have been astonishing. The Atlantis in Reno hosted their first large-scale poker tournament; I came in second on a televised final table; The Peppermill hosted their Deepstack Classic; I took a weeklong vacation with no email, TV, texts, web or telephone and some wanker(s) in the Federal Government tried to shut down all on-line poker. Spring in Reno

It’s a great time to be a poker player in Reno. The Grand Sierra’s World Poker Challenge is going to kick things off and carry me through to the opening weekend of March Madness. I’ll spend that weekend on my annual golfing/drinking/gambling/pokering weekend in Las Vegas. But as soon as that’s over I’ll be back in Reno on the tournament grind, this time at the Atlantis for their inaugural All In poker series. Then we get to cruise into April for the Peppermill series. Just writing down this schedule makes me smile.
